A twitter friend alerted me that Glamour online was looking for stories that connected money and tech, and this was an angle I had been thinking about for a while. I find it frustrating that high medical costs lead to people making medically dangerous decisions, and I am curious about how the market responds to these kinds of needs. Both companies were clear that if people need an ambulance, they should take one, but of course for some the potentially crushing cost of an ambulance ride will lead them to seek other cheaper options. I found it interesting to learn about how Uber and Lyft are addressing these needs while still trying to protect the interests of their drivers. Essentially, if a driver pulls up and you are sick or bleeding, she is under no obligation to get you to help.
