In “The Other Dark Matter,” Lina Zeldovich surveys the history and science of how human sewage is handled.
When you are interested in systems and sanitation a book about the history, science, and future of poop is intellectual catnip, so when I heard that this one by colleague Lina Zeldovich was coming out I signed myself up for an advanced copy. I read it over a weekend, and knew right away that even people who don't find poop as compelling as I do would love devoting time to this fascinating read. The books editor at Undark kindly accepted a pitch for my first ever published book review, and here we are. Highly reccomended.

I read that post and suddenly remembered laughing with my little brother over silly things like poop, but also learning something real. It made me think how even a Book Publisher Canada story can turn small, awkward topics into something honest, warm, and strangely meaningful.
