The beauty of sitting around and doing nothing

I wrote an essay for Globe and Mail about doing nothing, and how lovely it was to just sit and notice one's surroundings. The essay must have connected, because for weeks after I received emails from readers thanking me for it, telling me stories about how they used to do this and missed it, or had just done so. One man told me about his joy in flying his model airplane along the northeast coast of Canada, where he lives, just for fun and to calm his mind. A woman told me about how much she used to enjoy just sitting on her front porch. I was delighted by how an essay about literally nothing made so many people happy.
