How a Rubber Hand Can Help Fight Racial Bias

The human brain is capable of such complexity and such monumental failure. I find this pairing perpetually fascinating. For this piece I got to explore research and speak with the scientists who are working to understand what drives racial bias. People sometimes think that if we just eliminate our group identifiers we could all get along, but we humans are constantly seeking to form groups and to classify people as in or out. Sports team loyalty is an interesting example because it has very little to do with the actual life of the fan. What seemed to grab people the most about this piece was the beginning, in which I admit a horrible and enlightening moment of my own racial bias made plain. I have wondered whether it was the event or my confession that surprised people.
