Sexual Harassment Still Pervades Science
After reading a long thread on Twitter in which scientists across disciplines and institutions shared their stories, fellow science writer Starre Vartan and I collaborated to write this solutions-focused story for Scientific American on why sexual harassment continues in the sciences long after the #metoo movement, and what needs to happen for change.
"At most science institutions, safety lectures for field researchers and support staff teach how to avoid sunstroke, deploy emergency flares, and handle variables such as wild animals and flammable liquids. Sexual harassment is also a safety issue; it deserves the same respect."
